Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Thursday-Friday, Sept. 26-27
Participants in the Medical Center's quarterly blood drive scheduled from Thursday-Friday, Sept. 26-27, will automatically be registered in a drawing for a parking space on campus for the upcoming quarter and will receive a Mississippi Blood Services T-shirt.
The winner of the parking space drawing will be randomly selected from among all UMMC faculty, staff and students who participate in the blood drive or who donate to Mississippi Blood Services on behalf of UMMC during the current quarter. The winner will have parking privileges in the designated campus parking space at the learning resource center beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The UMMC blood drive is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the MBS donor coach at the Guyton Research Center and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in the MBS donor coach at the Jackson Medical Mall.
Photo identification is required to donate. Mississippi Blood Services suggests all donors eat within four hours of giving blood and drink plenty of fluids before and after the donation.

Two faculty in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology will give Work in Progress Talks presentations at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, in room N547 (Microbiology Library).
Dr. Chris Meade, associate professor of microbiology and immunology, will present "Microbial Determinants of Trichomoniasism" and Dr. Greg Chinchar, professor of microbiology and immunology, will present "Elucidation of Genes Essential for Virus Replication."

M.D.-Ph.D. candidate to explore evidence of God's existence
Subhi "Talal" Younes, an M.D.-Ph.D. candidate at UMMC, will give the Faith Seeking Understanding presentation, "Can We Be Good Without God?" from noon-12:50 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, in classroom 6A.

Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs, is scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting set for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Woodward will provide an update for the Medical Center and faculty with 20 years of service will be recognized. Flu shots will be available before and after the meeting from Student and Employee Health. Lunch will be available on a first-come basis.

Sponsored by the Myrlie Evers-Williams Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities, the event will include participants from Jackson State University, Mississippi College, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and UMMC. A reception will follow the competition.
